This two-day journey is a paradise for photographers and nature enthusiasts, offering mirror-like lake reflections, endemic wildlife, and a rare overnight camping experience at altitude with panoramic views across Bioko Island.
November to March for the clearest skies and best lake reflections. The trail can be muddy from June to October.

Depart Malabo early morning and drive to the trailhead at the edge of Bioko's southern highlands near Moka. The 5-hour hike ascends through montane forest, crossing clear streams and passing gigantic tree ferns. Your guide will point out the endemic Bioko squirrel, colorful turacos, and explain the volcanic geology. Arrive at Lago Biaó by early afternoon — a stunning emerald body of water surrounded by steep, forested crater walls. Set up camp on the lakeshore, swim in the cool waters, and enjoy a sunset dinner with the lake reflecting the changing colors of the sky.
Early morning wake-up to capture Lago Biaó's mirror reflection at sunrise — the prime photography moment. After breakfast, hike along the upper crater rim to take in unique viewpoints of the deep blue and turquoise waters below. Your guide will explain the volcanic history and point out rare orchids along the trail. Begin the descent mid-morning, with a packed lunch along the way. Arrive at the trailhead by early afternoon and transfer back to Malabo, arriving by late afternoon.
